Safety Aspects

Under the heading of safety, it is necessary to consider the welfare of visitors and members of staff using the reception area, and of course, this is related to the reputation and prestige of the organisation.  A person who is placed at risk through the negligence or carelessness of the hotel may well become annoyed and be unlikely to stay, make recommendations or indeed return.  As well as not returning themselves, an irate guest is likely to publicise their low opinion of the hotel, which could lead to a certain loss of future trade.  In service industries especially, personal recommendations (or the opposite) can mean a significant increase (or decrease) in customers.Accidents Happen
It is wise, therefore, for the hotel staff to try to predict exactly where an accident could occur and remove the hazard.  Most visitors will be engrossed in their business transactions or travel worries or relaxed and enjoying their holiday, and may overlook hazards and take risks without realising that they are doing so.  Visitors are always unaware of potential hazards such as an unexpected step up or down, swing doors that fly open violently and steep stairs.  Hotel staff who will be aware of these potential dangers should take care that visitors are also made aware, and any careless or 'dangerous' behaviour is stopped, before accidents happen.
