Enzymes

Enzymes are catalysts which help to speed up living organisms. Some enzymes are secreted out of the cell.

Generally they:

a) speed up the chemical reactions but cannot alter the end products

b) they catalyse only one type of reaction

c) their rate of working is influenced by temperature and pH

Enzymes are able to break food into simpler foodstuffs.

Each chemical reaction that occurs in living plants and animals has a specific enzyme to speed it up.

This means that a particular enzyme can only work on one type of reaction
